The Tango Touch (2015-17)
During my time as a migrant in Melbourne I have engaged in a series of pedagogical performative activations and in the envisioning and organisation of social participatory events within the Melbourne Tango community and the network of Tango teachers. These events were aimed to activate spaces for social inclusion and collaboration while “queering” the tango scene by contributing to a culture of experimentation and playfulness.
This process of sharing and exchange with the Melbourne Tango community was conceptualised and experienced within a larger performance-based inquiry of my positioning as a migrant artist in Melbourne. Tango offered me an opportunity to experience the inner heart of the city as a “stage” where people move following certain rhythms and trajectories. The spaces of the city, its squares, its streets, its stations and its cafes, became the socio-cultural field within my practice as a tango dancer, teacher and performer was inscribed.

The ‘Baldosa Festival’ takes on the fascinating challenge of dancing Tango in a small space - the ‘Baldosa’ being typically associated with a 1x1 mt square - and combines it with Buenos Aires Street Tango/Live Music tradition to create a stimulating platform for innovative interpretations of the genre. The first edition of the 'Baldosa Tango Festival' brings together some of the most active dancers and teachers in the Melbourne Tango Community to showcase their skills and celebrate their different styles.
